I-Pads In the Classroom?

Article!

This article talks about a New York school that traded all of their textbooks for I-pads for every student. We as teachers need to realize that we live in a world that is completely ran by computers. The I-Pads serve as a way for students to become interactive with their math problems. The I-Pads also serve as a very easy way for students to be learning hands on. I feel like if my school had the resources, I would defiantly want to let my students use I-Pads. I have also include a video of students working on math problems with their I-Pads.

Clickers in the Classroom?

Article!

This article talks about the use of clickers in the classroom. Clickers or Student Response Systems, are ways for the teacher to keep up with student progress without having them take a paper test. This article discussions how clickers can be used as active learning. The students are engaged with the questions, because they seem almost like a game. This is also great for teachers, because they can easily compare the students scores and also that makes grading a breeze! I do believe that I will use clickers, because I have seen in classrooms how much students really enjoy them. I believe they are great to use with math, because you can set a timer to make sure that the students are answering by using their mental math skills.

Using Wiki's in the Classroom!

Article!

In this article it talks about the various ways that you can use wikis in the math classroom. Wiki's are basically like blogs only the students are given the chance to interactive and edit the information on there. That is one thing that does scare me about letting my students use wikis, is what they will put on there. But I do feel like overall they are very useful in the classroom. I really like the idea of putting a problem solving question on there and letting the students work together to solve it. Another reason that I like, it allows students to work together without having to move around the classroom, and it keeps up with the information for them. I feel like wikis can be a great asset to a classroom, but like everything else they have to be monitored by the teacher.
